1.1.1.5. Suggesting Corrections¶

If you spot something wrong in a published record, such as a name, a date, a location, or a shape on the map, you can propose a fix from the record itself.

1.1.1.5.1. Who can suggest, and who decides¶

The owners of each gazetteer decide whether to invite suggestions at all. Where they have not, the option does not appear.
You need to be signed in to make a suggestion.
Every suggestion is reviewed by a person before anything changes. Nothing you propose alters a published record automatically.

1.1.1.5.2. Making a suggestion¶

Open the record you want to correct.
Choose to suggest a correction. The record opens in an editor, with your changes kept separate from the published version.
Make the change. If a location or shape is wrong, you can draw the geometry on the map.
Say briefly why the change is needed, and where the evidence can be found.
Submit. You can withdraw a suggestion while it is still under review.

1.1.1.5.3. What happens next¶

The gazetteer’s owners accept or reject each suggestion. Either way it is kept as a permanent record of who proposed what, when, and on what evidence. It is never silently deleted.

This is how WHG’s attestation model works in practice: a correction is itself a sourced, attributed claim, reviewed before it takes effect.
